“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
……our efforts to bring transformation
Our reproducible models so far…..
This is a leadership development mentoring programme we designed for Primary age pupils a few years ago which is currently being used in Glasgow’s North East area. Originally created by our Founding Director this programme has become adopted by a church in the local area who now oversee it in one of their local schools. As a result of Bullseye, we have seen pupils show improvement in their social-emotional development which has enabled some to take on leadership roles in a local community programme while others are now better equipped to take on similar roles within their own school. Some of the pupils are also more engaged now in local community activities as a result of the bridges built by the programme’s mentors. New volunteer mentors have been added as well as some university volunteer placements over the last few years.
Our first pilot year was funded through a single memorial gift in 2014. Now we are moving into our third full year and recently expanded into four schools with the receipt of some Glasgow Council funding, and we have three more schools on the waiting list. This programme addresses the issue of learning delays that many children from areas of deprivation are often faced with. Volunteer tutors work with upper primary school pupils in literacy and numeracy through engaging activities. We will begin a new Bright Sparks pilot for Secondary School pupils in 2016-2017. So watch this space. This pilot will also include outdoor learning activities as well as numeracy and literacy revision.
